Authorities in China's northwestern Shaanxi Province are working to control a toxic gas leak caused by a truck accident and police is now hunting for runaway truck drivers, state media reported today.

The accident occurred around 4:40pm yesterday when two trucks were about to pass through a road culvert tunnel on the Xitong Expressway and one suddenly got stuck. The truck was transporting 24.5 tons of propane gas when its valve struck the roof of the tunnel and gas began to leak, Xinhua news agency reported.

The colorless gas is poisonous to the human cardiovascular system and may cause heart failure and stop the breath.
