Shanghai Shenhua will have to sort out its own teething problems following its merger with Shanghai United as it plays host to Sydney FC in the Asian Champions League opener today. The local outfit, still smarting from a shock 0-2 defeat at home against Beijing Guo'an last Saturday in its first round Chinese Super League tie, is hoping to strike the perfect balance this time round. "Only three or four players are untouchables here with the rest subject to changes," Shenhua's Uruguayan manager Osvaldo Gimenez said yesterday. "This is only the second competitive match for the new Shenhua and we have to gel better as a team before we talk of a victory." Shenhua was taken over by an online gaming tycoon Zhu Jun in February, who bought out the controlling stakes in the club from a state-owned consortium and merged it with his former club Shanghai United.
