Ping An mounts HK play

Ping An Insurance (Group) has gained a license to run its assets-management firm in Hong Kong as the company's overseas investment arm. The Hong Kong affiliate will run Ping An Insurance and its affiliates' overseas investment through portfolios including stock, funds and bonds, the Shenzhen-based insurer said yesterday in a statement. The Hong Kong assets management affiliate received the license from the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission on March 1. "The move will help Ping An to invest in overseas markets with its own assets," said John Pearce, Ping An senior vice president and chief investment officer. Ping An is gearing up to become an all-round financial company with business in banking, assets management, securities and insurance sectors.
