Hong Kong and Taiwan TV hosts can only appear on mainland TV shows as guest hosts and cannot host more than three episodes in a row. The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) announced the restriction on Tuesday in a bid to standardize the work of compatriot hosts on the Chinese mainland. However, it is believed to have impacted the broadcasters' ratings, as a large number of young mainland audiences crave the relaxed styles of Hong Kong and Taiwan hosts. The production team of China Central Television's Chinese Show Star, which is hosted by popular Taiwan host Jacky Wu Zongxian, said up until now, they have only been informed by SARFT not to have more than two Hong Kong or Taiwan hosts for a show at the same time. More local stations also have encountered similar restrictions. The Hunan Television failed to bring Taiwan host Huang Zijiao on board in 2005 because of an SARFT rule limiting shows to only one Hong Kong or Taiwan host each month. Trackback(0)
