New report argues foreign market share too large

The Center for Forecasting Science of Chinese Academy of Sciences recently released a report stating that although sino-foreign equity joint ventures, sino-foreign cooperative joint ventures and foreign-funded enterprises haven't significantly impacted the dominating position of the national enterprises in secondary industries, the market share of the abovementioned three types of enterprises is too big or the growth of these enterprises too fast. The sectors in the focus of the report are the transport equipment industry, the telecommunications equipment industry and the computers and electronics manufacturing industry.

The report claims that the market share of the enterprises with foreign investment in the industry is too big and could easily lead to a monopoly situation. The report goes on to argue that this situation is not conducive to the improvement of the core competitiveness of national enterprises in the related industries, as could be detrimental to the long-run development of Chinese economy.

The report indicates that domestic market share exceeded 50% in only 5 industries among the 40 industries of the secondary industry in China in 2005: they are the telecommunications equipment, computer and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry (market share: 83.53%), instruments, culture and office machinery manufacturing industry (market share: 66.99%), the stationery and sporting goods manufacturing industry (61.40%), the furniture manufacturing industry (55.40%) and the leather, fur, feather (down) and other manufacturing industry (52.92%).
