Duan & Duan, a private Chinese mainland law firm, opens its branch in Hong Kong Monday, bringing the number of mainland law firms opening branches in Hong Kong to seven.

Duan & Duan, the first Chinese mainland law firm established by Chinese students returning from overseas and famous for its law practices in international investment and trade, said they will focus their business on the legal needs of the local, Mainland and international communities, taking the geographical and economical advantage of Hong Kong.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hong Kong's acting Associate-Director General of Investment Promotion Philip Kung said there is a huge demand from Hong Kong's international business community for legal services on expanding business to the Chinese mainland, which provides a perfect chance for mainland lawfirms, such as Duan & Duan.

With the growing economic attraction of China and China's accession to the World Trade Organization, more and more mainland law firms are looking for chances to expand business in international market and Hong Kong becomes the most convenient platform.

Jin & Du, a private law firm headquartered in Beijing, becomes the first mainland law firm opening branch in Hong Kong in 2006.
