Shanghai's living quality is on the rise, attracting a growing number of foreign investors and travelers to the city.

For those newcomers from Western countries, it usually takes nearly a month to get accustomed to living in a new time zone, climate and lifestyle. Some may experience bad health if they fail to accustom themselves to their new environment.

"When I first came to the city last year, I worried maybe there were some funny infections here and maybe some tropical diseases," said Dr Colin Walsh, a general practitioner at the Shanghai East International Medical Center. "But I haven't seen any cases of anybody catching significant infection in Shanghai."
