Guidelines / Terms and Conditions - 2007/02/06 23:37
They aren't exhaustive, and they aren't a substitute for common sense and good manners.
1) Be friendly. If you wouldn't say something to someone's face, don't say it on here. 2) Use informative subjects, place new topics in the most appropriate forum, don't cross-post. 3) Keep on-topic as much as possible, especially if the original question has not been answered. 4) Do not quote large chunks of text - quote relevant parts and comment on them. This applies to other posts and off-site articles. Articles from sites blocked from China may be completely quoted. 5) If taking information from elsewhere on the internet, link to it. 6) Do not post anything that may cause the site to be blocked from within China. If in doubt, don't post - ask. 7) Discussion of cracked / pirated / copied Chinese learning material (particularly software) is not allowed. 8) Anyone who doesn't follow the above (and now below, I added some) may be placed into a 'restricted' category, and all their posts will be checked before being placed on the board. (all new users are placed into this category automatically, but are very quickly moved out if they don't post spam, 500 language exchange requests, and claims that Toshiba has mind control radars) 9) Postings offering relevant commercial services or products are allowed, but must be checked by admin staff first. Commercial postings made without checking will be deleted, or ridiculed, whichever is most amusing. 10) Bear in mind this is a multi-cultural forum, and a large number of members are not native speakers of either Chinese or English. Avoid sweeping generalizations about the Chinese, Americans and the French, and avoid excessive use of slang / idioms / etc. 11) This is an English-language forum about Chinese language and culture, it is not a Chinese language forum. Posts should be largely in English, with explanations or translations given for Chinese - although obviously the use of Chinese for examples, etc, is essential 12) This is not a chatroom. Please don't make posts as brief as 'haha', 'lol', 'I know', etc - add something useful to the discussion 13) Signatures and avatars: Non-animated avatars only, and please nothing too distracting. Signatures should be no more than 2 lines of normal sized black text.
