As might be expected in a rapidly developing nation, China’s construction sector has grown substantially since the early 1980s.

In the twenty-first century, investment in capital construction has experienced major annual increases.

In 2001 investments increased 8.5 percent over the previous year. In 2002 there was a 16.4 percent increase, followed by a 30 percent increase in 2003.
