Railways
Xiamen is well connected to all parts of the country through the Yingtan-Xiamen Railway, which is linked up with the nationwide railway network. Direct passenger services are available between Xiamen and Shanghai, Nanjing, Hefei, Fuzhou, Nanchang and Yingtan.

Besides the well equipped Xiamen Railway Station, the Xiamen North Railway Station, situated at Gaoqi, has been extended for transport of import and export goods.

Highways
The Fuzhou-Xiamen and Zhangzhou-Xiamen Highways link up Xiamen with every part of Fujian Province and with Provinces of Guang dong, Jiangxi and Zhejiang as well. Xiamen boasts a diversified highway transportation with State-owned, Sino- foreign funded & Sino-foreign cooperative passenger and freight enterprises. Passenger services are provided everyday between Xiamen and Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Longyan,Shantou, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, with deluxe limousines and light buses. Container freight services are also available between Xiamen and Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The Xiamen Bridge, a bridge spanning the straits, which was completed and put into use not long ago, greatly facilitates the highway traffic and transportation of Xiamen Island with the Mainland.

Electricity Supply
Xiamen power network is an important part of that of Fujian Province. Its electricity is mainly supplied by the provincial network. There are three local reserved power plants with a total capacity of 133,000 KW. The power supply of the local network has five voltage grades. They are 220 KV, 110 KV, 35 KV, 10 KV. and 0. 4 KV. Within the network, there are three 220 KV, ten 110 KV, and eleven 35 KV transformer stations already in operation. By the end of 1995, another 220 KV transformer station and four other 110 KV transformer stations will be built, and so will be the 300,000 KW power generation unit in the first phase of Songyu Power Plant and some other electricity transforming facilities. Thus the ability of electricity supply in Xiamen will be greatly improved.

Foreign investment projects and the key state construction projects will be given the priorities in survey, design, construction, installation and electricity supply on condition that the formalities are all gone through and power supply is feasible.

COMMUNICATIONS
Xiamen boasts convenient telecommunication services with a programme-controlled automatic telephone exchange system, linking up 182 countries and regions and most of the domestic municipalities, cities and counties by direct dialing.
